Remember the Golden Nature Guides? They were the best, with excellent information and lavish illustrations.

Iโm glad to report that they have been reprinted and can be purchased on Amazon, etc., which is great since I donโt like a lot of the newer field guides. I mean sure, some of the info in the Golden Nature Guides is a little out of date (plant and animal ranges, etc.) but they are still more comprehensive than their latter counterparts:

And the perfect compliment to old fashioned book guides are these amazing new phone apps that can identify plants, fungi, insects, rocks and minerals, birds, and even fish in the field. Iโve found them to be amazingly accurate.

I realized that not only did Star Trek prop designer Wah Chang come up with the flip style cell phone design back in 1966 with the communicator but with all these new apps the tricorder (denoting the 3 functions: sensing, recording, and data analysis) is now actually real!

All this is fantastic since you can have both the old and the new and totally bypass the reeky pieces of sh*t that were published in the 1990s. ๐
